Ridgefield

About forty minutes north, across the border in Washington state, Ridgefield is a National Wildlife Refuge that is a wintering place for thousands of migratory birds like snow geese and sandhill cranes.  There's always something interesting to see there. I  took the image below at dusk on a late fall afternoon.

Blue herons are pretty common in the Northwest, particularly in the area's nature refuges.

When you're in Ridgefield, the rules require you to stay in your car, except in a few designated places. Why? Because outside of your car means you could get shot.  Ridgefield is a federal government wildlife refuge, but they allow hunting. That seems like an oxymoron.
